I was looking to buy a premium WordPress Theme for one of my projects a while ago and I came across ThemeForest and WooThemes. There are other premium WordPress Theme stores like Elegant Themes, Templatic, Template Monster, etc, but ThemeForest and WooThemes are leading the market. After looking around for a while, I decided to review and compare ThemeForest and WooThemes.

ThemeForest

Pros:
- Useful interface (you can search themes by criteria, list themes by authors, see ratings for each theme, no. of sales made, etc)
- Cheap (average $25 – $30 per theme)
- Comes with PSD (Photoshop file)
- Lots of variety
- Comments section for each theme allow you to directly communicate with the theme author and ask questions

Cons:
- Customising each theme can be very different because they are built and designed by many theme developers around the globe.
- Support is provided by the theme author rather than the ThemeForest staff
- Mostly English Only

Quality of themes:
Most themes come with Cufon/sIFR Custom font, jquery plugins, pre-installed WordPress plugins like Related Posts, Most Popular Posts, Social Linking, etc.

WooThemes

Pros:
- Great Support / Knowledge Base available to theme users and theme owners
- Standard “Theme Options” in the admin section that is built on a single WooThemes framework to allow you to customise each theme very easily
- Available in multiple languages

Cons:
- No Advanced Interface (eg: You can’t browse themes by author or rating or popularity)
- Expensive (average $70 per theme) *Cheaper if you join the theme club
- PSD only included for Developer License (Average price of a Developer License for each theme: $150)
- Fewer themes compared to ThemeForest

Quality of themes:
As with ThemeForest, most themes from WooThemes come with Cufon Custom font, jquery plugins, pre-installed WordPress plugins like Related Posts, Most Popular Posts, Social Linking, etc. The quality of themes from both stores are very similar. Themes from both stores are written in valid XHTML/CSS, compatible with most modern browsers, etc.

Which one to buy?
As I mentioned earlier, if you are looking for a lot of variety and a value for money, ThemeForest is definitely the answer. The pricing is a lot more affordable compared to WooThemes as they have a bigger community. But if you are looking for consistency and a standard framework and are willing to pay more for that, WooThemes is your friend.

    777509516447
786655457415

You can sign up for dreamhost at https://signup.dreamhost.com/ and use the 12-digit code in the “promo code” field. Please leave a comment if you use one of them so I can update this post accordingly.

Each invite code:
* Can be used just once. So be quick before someone else uses it!
* Give $15 off a 1-year hosting or $100 off a 2-year hosting. The one-year hosting costs $119.40 and two-year costs $214.80, but after applying the code, it will be $104.40 for a year and $114.80 (just $4.78/month) for 2 years.
* Are way better than regular promo codes.. but are in very limited supply.

Why Flash is Here to Stay
There’s a huge debate stirring around the internet about the capabilities of HTML5 and it’s threat to Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight and other rich internet application (RIA) technologies. The amount of support behind HTML5 is encouraging and great to see, as it will only help it’s adoption by both browsers and users, however it is important to understand it’s capabilities and limitations.

How To Add Author Box On Your Wordpress Blog Without Using Any Plugins
Author Box is always nice to have on your Wordpress blog, not only because it looks good, but it gives the reader a chance to connect with and promote yourself in one or two liners.

Basic CSS3 Techniques That You Should Know
We’ll be looking at a few of the essential things you need to know about CSS3. With all of these new features, it’s important to place emphasis on the most important ones to get you up to speed. Even though only the most modern of web browsers (Safari, Mozilla, Opera) currently (partially or fully) support CSS3 specs, it’s an exciting time for those who like to experiment!

Entering The Wonderful World of Geo Location
Pulling out your phone, find your location and getting directions to the nearest bar is easy, but a lot of work has gone into making that possible. The good news is that because of that effort, mere geo-mortals like you and me can now create geographically aware products using a few lines of code. So, let’s give the geo-community a big hand.

12 Tips for a More Accessible Website
Making your website accessible to everyone is not only a moral duty, it’s a legal obligation. Many organizations, including the International Olympic Committee, have been sued for not making their websites accessible enough. With 50 million Americans suffering from some disability or other, improving your site’s accessibility makes clear commercial sense too.

Design

38 Mobile (iPhone) Sites
As you may probably know mobile design is getting more and more popular, particularly the iPhone design. Almost every popular website or web app offers a mobile version now. In this post, I’ve collected a list of 38 nicely designed sites (ranging from personal, blog, portoflio, editoral, web app, etc.) that are optimized for iPhone.

Business cards; don’t leave home without it. Business cards are a means of passing on your contact details to potential partners or customers. It is a traditional tool of the trade that cannot be overlooked despite how small and insignificant it might appear to be.

12 Useful and Free Downloadable Web Design Books
In this post rather than offer all of my favorite web design books, I have listed 12 books that I have either downloaded and read (or at least scanned through), or I have bookmarked with the whole-hearted intention of eventually reading it (Ruby Best Practices), and the best thing of all? All of these books are completely FREE, in digital format anyway (PDF or HTML).

What Every Designer Should Do Right Now
While trying to balance the different areas of our life, there are things that we often forget and neglect to do. With today’s fast-paced society and the busyness of our every day, we tend to overlook some important things. I would like to remind every designer today about some of these tasks that we often put-off but are so important and necessary to get done.

Most bloggers would love to see more of a sense of community among the regular visitors to their blog. Sure, discussions sometimes take place in the comments of various posts, but it all seems a bit disorganized and they never really get off the ground. There has to be a better way to create a real sense of community on a WordPress blog.
