esn studio - redesign

Almost every website is going through a redesign, so I thought I would join the hype. Well, that’s not the real reason, but yes, this weblog has been redesigned.

The objectives of the redesign

- To push ads [Read about Adsense Tips and Tricks]
- To highlight the articles (content pages)
- To have a slightly different layout for index page and the rest of the site
- To experiment with the bottomsidebar
- To brush up my css

10 Web Trends That Should Die in 2006

If you haven’t read the article - 10 Web Trends That Should Die in 2006, be sure to check it out, as it’s a good read.

One point that caught my attention and made me think was 6. “Let’s do a traditional homepage for our company.”.

- A nested navigational structure with no way to find out which parts have changed,

- A lonely press release corner titled “News”,

- Practically no external links unless the site linked to is an official partner in some way,

- A hypothetical “front-door navigation path” approach to usability, which is so ‘94,

- No signatures or date stamps below articles,

- Advertisement bogus content, which no one cares to read about.

Almost all websites I have designed for commerical clients have those sections, and I don’t even know why I started following that trend. But clients seem happy with it and there has been no complaint so far, probably because they are usually busy and they don’t have time to keep up with the latest technologies. Many companies are starting to use RSS feature, but I personally think a lonely press release corner called “News”, a nested navigational structure and a hypothetical front-door navigation path are here to stay for a while.

CSS Vault Redesign

CSS Vault
CSS Vault
is having a redesign (it’s still a work-in-progress at this moment).

Some of the things I love:

- Navigation Tabs
- Overall Layout (minus the color scheme - I don’t really like the combination of green and blue)
- Site Rating
