Four Tips To Becoming A Thought Leader

How would you like to become so great in your chosen field, a well-known person or an expert? When you are well-known for being amazingly great in a field, you will gain influence and credibility in your area of expertise and become the go-to person. What’s more, it will benefit your career and your life and will set you apart from the rest of the crowd. However, there is a catch; you cannot just become great at something overnight, it takes time, effort and a good strategy. The following four strategies will help you in your journey and as long as you are consistent with your effort, I guarantee that you will see results.

Find a niche.

The first step in becoming awesome at something is knowing which area or niche to focus on. You may be good at a few things but you can’t be great at everything. Therefore, you need to pick a niche that you are good at and you are passionate about, and then become great in that niche by improving your skills and knowledge.

Educate.

The most effective way to become known as an expert in your field is through educating and teaching. Offer valuable insight, resources and advice to others through a medium or mediums of your choice, such as blogs, websites, podcasts, videos, newsletters and books. Demonstrate your knowledge and share what you know in your field with an intention to teach and inspire others. By educating others, you will also learn and grow with them as your knowledge will be up to date.

Be seen.

You may already be great at what you do and have an extensive knowledge in your field, but if nobody knows about it then you are no different to anyone else. Therefore, you need to put yourself out there and promote yourself. The best way to do this is through speaking and writing engagements. Be on the lookout for opportunities and pitch yourself to become a speaker at events related to your field or a contributing writer for professional publications. Yes, it will take time and effort and there will be challenges to overcome but always remember that there is no substitute for hard work.

Work on your mindset.

Your mindset is one of your most powerful assets; how you deal with challenges, opportunities and setbacks in life are determined by your mindset. There are two types of mindsets, fixed mindset and growth mindset. Having a fixed mindset means you undermine your skills and abilities and thus it limits you from reaching your full potential. A growth mindset is the opposite, you accept challenges, understand that there is no free lunch, learn and grow continuously to make your dreams a reality and believe in yourself that you can achieve anything you set your mind to. In other words, to become great at something, you must strongly believe in yourself and be positive about achieving your goal. Because in the end, as Henry Ford said, ‘whether you think you can or you think you can not, you are probably right’.
